Benefits of Fasting: By Josh and Sarah Bowmar

What is Fasting?

Fasting is when you're not eating for a certain amount of time. For example: when you sleep you are pretty much in a fasting state, but of course, longer fasts have more benefits. Intermittent fasting can be a great option if you are just starting out dieting because it's harder to over-eat when you have a shorter amount of time to eat, but it’s definitely not impossible. You still have to be careful not to binge eat when you're in your fed state but also make sure you are getting enough to eat as well. It’s a great way to lose weight as long as you're doing it in a healthy way!

BENEFITS of a 16 hour fast:

Josh and Sarah Bowmar believe fasting helps with weight and fat loss. When you're in a fasting state, your body is not getting that energy in from your food, so your body has to create its own by breaking down body fat. Fasting gets rid of inflammation throughout your body; even in your brain! Getting rid of that inflammation can help your joint pain go away. Fasting is also great for mental clarity. It can clear brain fog so you can become more focused on daily tasks. You can fast everyday if you want to and still be able to reach your fitness goals. You can still lose weight, gain muscle or maintain weight. Whatever your goals are, fasting is a great option.

BENEFITS of a Prolonged fast 20-48 hours Fast:

This is a more intense fast and should really only be done once a month or so. If you ever try this fast, don't start at 20 hours, build your way up so it doesn't do damage to your body.

Your healthy cells start to break down damaged or old cells for energy which can help reduce aging and can even kill precancerous cells. This has many healing effects and can improve vascular functions.  When your body is in a fast this long, it gets all those damaged cells and organ cells and recycles them into energy. This isn’t for everyone but could be very beneficial to you! Josh and Sarah Bowmar believe everyone should at least give intermittent fasting a try!
